Just when you thought she was all fixed

Post by ianst0028 » Sat Dec 10, 2016 7:25 pm

My darling x5 has decided that after not needing anything doing to her for the last 8 weeks she'd spent enough time lulling me into a false sense of security
Tonight we all jump in and head to the supermarket as I pull her into a parking space the check engine light comes on
I've got my code reader in the back because I needed it on another job this afternoon so I plug in to see what's up
Nothing.... As in the code reader doesn't even light up
Then this high pitched siren kicks off
After about 10 min the siren shuts up and I start the car (I could start it while the siren was sounding btw)
I then notice that the car seems to be in transport mode.... No wipers no central locking
I've just plugged the bmw laptop in but it can't see the engine gearbox or body control ecu's

I can't be bothered to go hunting tonight but tomorrow I'm assuming that I'm gonna be spending hours looking for a blown fuse (God please let it be that simple)
Any way I've got the car at home now and the battery is disconnected for the night

Any one got ideas..... I'd love to hear them (yes I've contemplated a gallon of petrol and a match)

Thanks Graham
Lol one of those is my thread from when it went into transport mode last time.... This time it's a bit worse I think because the engine ecu was showing on the laptop last time
I'm gonna start with fuses and progress to raging fire tomorrow

My first stop would be to disconnect the battery (Which you have already done now i have re-read the original post!!) and discharge the car (Short the leads together)

Then start again....

Sounds like you may have had a low voltage issue somewhere possibly, of could have some moisture in places it shouldn't be..

Ok I'm weak..... The frustration was driving me insane. So I've gone back out to the car with my light and some long nose pliers
Fuse 14 the little b@$|®€ was blown..... It's part of the diagnostic circuit
I've left the battery off for the night and I'll hook it all back up in the morning with everything crossed

Thanks for the help guys..... I'll let you know what the results are tomorrow

Sometimes it can be no more than thermal fatigue (heating & cooling cycles) causing the fuse link to crack through.
