hi everyone.
I am happy owner of X5 2005 E53 4.4 BMW
The problem I have is intermittent. The sat nav screen goes off (very often) and it shows only horizontal stripes going from the top to the bottom of the screan. Everything works radio etc.
I was thinking to get a replacement like one of this 2 din Eonon Android systems from ebay, but after removing my sat nav I found out I have only 2 cables on the back and actual spikers and sat nav and radio connections are in the boot.
I decided to visit my local shop to ask for help. They said they cant fix my sat nav and they can only fit like JVC, Kenwood etc equipment and it wont show fulel consumption, TV, speed etc as I have it now. At the same time they advised me against the ebay systems as very faulty and not that easy to get them to work.
They pointed to me that in fact my Sat Nav screen might be fine it is soemthing else causing the problem.
Has anyone came across this before. Please see the video. I would appreciate any help. I need thi sSat Nav to work again and I hate the phone ones.

Broken Sat Nav Screen. Please advise
Re: Broken Sat Nav Screen. Please advise
That looks like a video module failure in the boot rather than a Nav screen fault. The head is just a display with video processing done elsewhere.

Re: Broken Sat Nav Screen. Please advise
having looked at your video, its worth checking the ribbon cable that connects the actual screen section of the head unit to the main circuit board.
press the eject button to make the screen tilt up, before it auto returns down - get your fingers up the back and find the brown ribbon cable and a wiggle of the ribbon cable seemed to bring it back to life for a while anyway, if your nimble fingered, its best to dismantle the unit and make sure ribbon cable is seated properly.

Your advice helped. I pushed this ribbon back towards the screen and since then it is working perfectly fine. I guess if it happens again I will dismount it and look properly inside why this brown ribbon cable is causing problems.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Broken Sat Nav Screen. Please advise
It can be no more than vibration plus time that makes it come loose.
