Being a complete knob on computers, how do I know which drivers I need?

Win 7 drivers have been discussed before.
Do a search on here and you should come up with it.
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Smee, much appreciate your mail with drivers BUT can't seem to get the two to come together. Always get a "hardware problem" message after following all the instructions. I do remember reading somewhere that you had to solder a couple of wires inside the module to get it to work properly. Can't find the thread at the moment. Can you shed any light on this or am I talking bO*^"x

The soldering bit was on the very early ones, it wouldn't see certain modules if you didn't solder two of the pins together, didn't have to do it with mine.
Also I bought a dedicated laptop off eBay with XP on in the end , after spending hours trying to get it to work on windows 7. Even on XP you still had to load the drivers separately. But I'm computer literate really

Have you got it plugged into the car??
The majority of the 1.4 scanners are powered off the OBD port so wont be recognised unless you plug em in..

That was today's plan after fitting the new and now painted calipers to rear of R32, only to discover they are the wrong calipers, so have been siting indoors feeling sorry for myself, will try that tomorrow and let you know.

is there a lot of difference with these software things you can buy,  i got the V1.4.0 and a cd,  set up and easy to use, i see others advertised  IPNA DSS DIS TIS  all sorts and wondered what they do differently,  all im interested in is  fault finding and perhaps how to do ,  do i need this other lot as im not a pc expert if its complex to load up or use.
Thanks

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice on these things as I have had no joy what so ever. I have a Fox scanner which I'm very impressed with, haven't had anything plugged in that picks up as many modules.
