X pipe 4.4

Post by themoog » Thu Apr 20, 2017 4:24 pm

Anyone got one instead of the centre box on a 4.4? Just curious as to what it sounds like- inside and outside the car.

My reading on this is that it gives 5/10 hp but is quieter than standard box but more of a V8 sound. but, like your self I'd like to hear from someone who has done it. Most people seem to do the whole thing so it's hard to judge what xpipe will sound like on it's own. I see you as "the man" to experiment and let us all know 8)

I'll try it if it doesn't cost too much... The power increase would be a bonus. I just want a V8 burble. I don't thrash it so I want to rumble down the road. Not too loud though and certainly not intrusive inside. Windows down all the time you understand...
I've just emailed a custom exhaust place to find out more.

By the way, my old Cayenne had a V8 burble but X5's seem to be more muted. Maybe more 'class' than 'crass'..

The burble would be nice, I've been to two exhaust places and neither of them convinced me they they wanted to do anything other than sell me a full system both told me more or less the opposite of the other and neither convinced me they knew how to make it burble. I have the Samota CAI fitted and on hard acceleration it is glorious and no different to normal when daily driving. The search goes on.

I've found a thread on xoutpost. It's titled  'another successful exhaust mod..'. I'm on my phone so I don't know how to add a link.
Anyway, its exactly what I am after I think. It cost him $200 at a garage.

To those that are interested- I had a quote of £200 to put in an x pipe although after doing more research a H pipe is maybe the way to go. Apparently they produce a lower tone and more torque lower in the rev range which is probably better for me.

Does that mean you get rid of, or keep the center section.

The suitcase sized centre resonator goes in both cases. I don't want a 'raspy' Ferrari noise but a low burble. And I don't thrash the motor so low down torque is more important to me. There are a fear Range Rovers by me that make the noise I'm after so I may do more detective work...

Hi

I know Raj with his 4.8i had a custom car back system with an X pipe and new rear boxes which did sound good more throaty sound from when I had a meet with him and hearing it.

Links below and he got this done by Raj at Profusion, which in Slough, so may be worth giving them a ring and discuss it.
