seat bolster cover

Post by marinaman » Mon Apr 24, 2017 2:20 pm

Hi all
lots seem to have that bit of the drivers seat that wears way,  the bolster i think its called, didnt want a full naff cover but found this on Amazon, comes in a few colours and to us it looks really good,  like a leatherette material but as you can see it has side wings that cover the bolster, it hooks on underneath. seems a reasonable fix for this common problem.  sorry  dont know how pics got turned sideways.  i got the beige and its nearly a perfect match.
comes in beige. black, grey and odd one out  orange. £16.00 ,  also says it lets the heat through in winter.
Look carefully though,  the covers are similar but only the 1st seems to have the bolster wing cover,  the others may cover it but hard to say.

heres the Amazon link, ONLY ONE WITH BOLSTER WING
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06 ... UTF8&psc=1

Here is another link for same item but different seller,  he does 2 packs which save you cash, also shows item in more detail and how they fix, but he dont have beige colour, NO BOLSTER WING
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Car-Accessor ... r+seat+pad

Finally,  here is yet another link to a full car set, LOOK carefully though,  the fronts have no side wings for the bolster

They look brilliant as if they had been made to fit the seats, another big bonus is they are also charcoal filled especially great if you had a 'curry' the night before  :)) :))

indeed, no product will ever suit everyone but unless there is a repair cure for the bolster any alternatives are welcome

My solution to the bolster problem was to swap seat bottoms, complete PITA but worth it. I have a virtually new bolster and passenger has a very slightly worn one which isn't going to get any worse. Had to then fit a seat occupancy resistor to passenger seat to keep a warning out. But those are the best seat covers I.ve seen.

If the bolster is just showing signs of wear, the leather can be re coloured with a dye that is available from EBay.
I had my seats on my 8 series re touched up by a local guy. They looked like new afterwards.
Not difficult to do , sure there will be a how to on YouTube.

Getting the seat out is not too big a problem & inserting more foam under the original to plump up the side bolsters isnt too difficult either.

Care needs to be taken with the heated mat & its electrical connections tho when chopping the retaining hog-rings (if used).

I used to Black boot polish to rejuvenate my black leather.... squidge loads on in the evening & buff the next day... all the whitish bits vanish for another year & the seat feels good again.

I have also re-packed the seat-back, as it was beginning to sag in the lower lumber position a while ago.

The plastic rear panel of the seat is secured with 2 screws at the base of the panel under the rear of the seat - in-case you ever wonder how to get it apart..
