Rear light cluster removal

Post by Smeeagain » Thu Jun 15, 2017 1:17 pm

Im having the 'check brake light" message coming on a lot. The build is good and Im going to remove the light cluster (rear nearside) to check all connections. Can anyone tell me who to do this please or point me in the direction of a how to (I did a search but couldn't find anything)

Thanks
Smee

I had that when i first got my car.
One day it would come up with the warning the next day it had gone ????.
Turned out i had a wrong bulb in the top brake light (centre bulb fitting).
It had a side light bulb in it and it takes a 21w like the indicator type bulb.
Works as a side light and a brake light but only one filament.

Actually I did not need to remove the light cluster as it happens, which is just as well as I could only see two bolts not three.
Anyway, the white plastic bulb holder has a spring metal contact within it. After lots of buggering around changing the build, cleaning contacts, changing the bulb holder, I spotted on the side of the build holder there is a cut out the lets you see where the base of the build contacts the sprint metal. There was some play that allow the build to move forward and away from the contact with the legal. Got a screwdriver to prise the spring open a little to ensure good metal to metal contact. Hey presto, issue solved.
