washer jets

Evening all

can anyone tell me before i start poking with a sharp thin object,  are the windscreen washer jets adjustable,  all i can see is a tiny rectangluar slot.

No not adjustable.
Mine where spraying a bit low and looked it up and it is down to the filter where the pump goes into the bottle.
What i did was mentioned on here was to put some steredent tablets in the bottle.
So when the bottle was empty i part filled it with hot water and put 3 tablets in.
An hour later i gave the washers a quick squirt to pull some through then left it over night before drawing it through the washer system to empty the bottle and i now have a far better spray.

some vinegar/salt or lime scale remover for a few hrs & brush off with an old toothbrush will also clean them out, & then they will likely spray properly.

The dried crystalline deposits of the screen wash block the nozzle jets & can often alter the direction.

Another tip is to be wary of which screen wash to use.  Some cheaper screen wash concentrates result in a bacterial gunk growing in the tank and blocking the pumps and filters.  You need one with alcohol of some sort in it (and no vodka is not the answer) to prevent it.

I now only use the BMW OEM one which I buy in 5-10l containers (much cheaper than the 1L offering) and have never had the problem recur.

NOTE... the lime scale remover may damage paint - remove the jets to treat them in a jam jar...

Any tips on how to remove them. I looked a few times, couldn't work it out and didn't want to break the plastic clips forcing them the wrong way

I bought some stuff called Puriclean off eBay. it used to purify the water in caravan water tanks I believe. It cost about £6 and you use about a teaspoon every time you fill up the screen wash. one tub will last a couple of years or more I reckon. never had the gunk back since then. Im in no way related to the seller, commercially or otherwise, or endorsing them but it seems to work just fine. But you need them cleaned through first. This just stops the future build up of said gunk
