Brake lines
Brake lines
Does anyone know if the brake lines come bent to shape or as a straight pipe? Because I'm going to be working in that area and the two rears are showing rust I think I'll change them. If not what size of piping is fitted. Thanks in advance.

Be careful, there are a few previous posts where things have gone very wrong on trying to bleed the brakes on the X5. Something to do with the abs pump needing to be put in a certain mode via diognostics/ software.
I know your savvy with things BMW and Mechanical, just thought I'd. Ring it up

Re: Brake lines
Thank you for that, I've just looked on the parts list and see that the r/h side is a 10mm connection and the l/h side is 12mm. Not quite sure why that would be. Are the pipes different sizes. As I don't need the car daily I might just wait till I have them off before I buy anything. My plan was to disconnect the pipe mid to rear of car and plug the pipe at what is called the intermediate piece so as not to lose any fluid from the reservoir to that point and hopefully avoid all the hassle of bleeding the ABS pump. Still every day is a learning day.

Re: Brake lines
My garage done mine a while back with a roll of copper piping and the odd rubber joint, etc. Had no problems.
Re: Brake lines
Done the brakes at the weekend, made a pipe about 3 inches long, one end bunged up, then disconnected at intermediate piece and fitted that made up pipe to stop fluid loss. I then took my time to remove old pipe and shape (reasonably) the new stuff. Finally reconnected to the intermediate piece and left it to bleed without any help (apart from keeping the reservoir topped up) Done a final pressure bleed and everything is fine, no problem with ABS pump. Lucky or what.
