Squeaking sound from rear left suspension

Post by extremezmachine » Mon Jul 03, 2017 6:04 pm

Any idea if this has to do with the air suspension? Not very loud but it's audible

Hi

I presume you re driving when you hear the squeak.

In which case it will probably be necessary to check the rear suspension. It could be a bush that is dry or worn or even the rear stabiliser bar(anti roll bar and links). I think it's a process of elimination I am afraid and possibly having the car up to check it.

Or you could try spraying a couple of bushes at a time with silicon spray and then take the car out for a drive to see if any difference and the squeak has gone and so on.

Also it's worth looking at www.realoem.com for you car and it gives good diagrams of the components involved.

A squeak or groan from the rear my money would be on the Rose Bush. They are not horrendous to change but you will need a tool to press the bush out and pull the new one in. My advice would be rebuild the rear suspension completely it isn't difficult and will transform a car with worn suspension. I brought a complete kit from Ebay for less than £200 and a Saturday afternoon of my time, make sure you have a full 4 wheel alignment after any suspension work.
I have carried this work on two X5 I have owned and its well worth it there are a few good video's on the net to help.

4.4 X5 Sport Topaz Blue LPG (now gone squashed by a tree)
