I’m new to this. Got my first BMW 6 months ago now with winter coming, I want to upgrade my angel eyes on my 2004 X5 (E53) to LED’s. what do I need??? My front lights are all halogen. I’ve been told its illegal and will not pass MOT to change the main and dip.
I just want to upgrade the Angel eye. They look like 2 Glow worms
Help please.

Angel Eyes
Re: Angel Eyes
Change the main/dip to what? LED or HID (Xenon)? There are kits available to convert to HIDS but I’m not certain about LED unless they are E Approved lamps, and no idea how good they really are. OEM LEDs are very powerful and need control systems to run them and it may be that the aftermarket offerings are not up to on road use.
HID kits are available with ‘R’ type bulbs designed for reflector lamp units and ‘S’ type for projector lamp units.
LED angel eyes may be a challenge on non-Xenon equipped E53s as the source lamp is a special type (I think).
Have a look at places like HIDS Direct, HIDS4U and others for kits.
The MOT will be looking at glare and beam pattern. Technically Xenon equipped cars should have auto levelling systems and washers but the MOT states if present they must work, but they may not be present.
Have a look at Realoem (BMW Parts database) for actual bulb types that you need to match.

Re: Angel Eyes
In which case there are lots of threads on here about it. No one has yet found an LED replacement that comes close to the later current BMW OEM look, and many have tried (and spent a lot of money only to be disappointed).
The firms listed will give you options to try.

Re: Angel Eyes
I’m looking for something better than the glow worms I have at the moment (brighter candles).
