Max button on heater fan

Garage replaced radiator fan and thermostat this week. Since then ....... normally if I press the max button on the heater it will turn the fan speed up full (i.e. to max) staying at whatever temp it was set at.

But now when you press max, the fan does goes up to full, switches to zircon if it wasn't on already and reset the temp to 16c.

Now I'd normally use the max to give the windscreen a boos to defrost and/or demise, but it ain't going to clear it at 16c
Does anyone have any idea why this has happened. if you turn the fan speed up manually toppling the + button it doesn't drop the temp, only when you hit the max button (car is 2004 E53 3.0 D Auto)

My Max button on my E93 turns the fan to full speed and turns the temp to 16 degs. The demister button which is over the heated rear screen button turns the fan to full speed and stays at the same temperature as was set.
The max button also has the AC snow flake symbol on it and is in the centre of the left hand knob.
Can't remember if this was the same as my E53, can't check the E83 as the wife's away this weekend in it,

Ok thanks I'll hot the demister button tomorrow to see it it holds the temp, cheers

ours does same,  press MAX  and no matter what other is set  it will drop to 16c and put max fans power on,  i thought it was  max cooling button,  sure does work though when getting in hot car,  i think that is its purpose.

Funny how we think something has changed on our car when its been like that for the last seven years. Maybe I just always press the demist button and not the max
