Small "O" ring on oil filter housing.

Post by Alan Gunn » Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:44 am

What is so special about the small O ring at the bottom of the oil filter housing.
Why do bmw charge so much for what i would say is a 20p part.

Because they can, don't see that it does anything other than keep the filtered and unfiltered oil from mixing, I assume we're talking 3.0d here. How much do they charge, doesn't the filter kit come with it. If it doesn't then perhaps BMW don't think it needs changing. Why do you want to change it. Just being nosey. :)

It's the tiny one at the bottom never had one with a filter only the big one.
If it is not on then you get no oil pressure as i found out when the bottom got boken of the one on my sisters 320d but the new holder came with one.
Best part of £10 for the "O" ring and it won't fit on your little finger.

ECP Mann filters come with both....or at least the last two I have bought from them did ... along with a new washer for the drain plug.

Found some on egay for just under £6.
Just don't understand what it so special about them.
