Hi Jason, we spoke a few weeks ago (not sure if you remember) the nearest guy you had in my neck of the woods was in Hull.
I'm only getting 17-19 round town from my 3.0d and about 25 on the m/way.
It's going back in tomorrow to the dealers as i've asked them to check it out.
As I said i'd be up for getting more mpg from the car, i'm assuming you'd need the car with you at your place ?
let me know what that say and yes we will need it down here for tests, keep watching this space

I'm in the North East, so if this is successful, you have a customer waiting (and I would be willing to do trials but your a tad far away). The car is a E70 4.0d (3lt twin turbo) on a 10 plate.

I get round the doors circa 400 per tank, but can get 30+ and 500+ on a motorway

On the back of my post a few days ago over shite mpg, the dealer rang me earlier to state that my e70 has had a new DDE unit installed and all the software reloaded onto it.
I'm hoping this will improve the mpg.
Has anyone else had a new DDE unit fitted ??

what is DDE unit? my 3.0sd doesnt given any more than 27mpg(complete motorway) at 70-75mph. I was tired and keeping the speed to that and still no improvement in my mpg. very disappointed.

brief explanation here http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/tech ... onics.html
good job for warranty as the DDE is over a grand alone plus all the software needing to be put back on the car.
bill would of been just over £2k. :o

What was wrong with engine ecu for them to change it?
How much would it of been to program it to the car if you had to pay?

Not sure if it's the same thing but my E70 X35d had the DDE reprogrammed )service recall they told me) but no noticable difference in fuel consumption. That said, I think it's completely masked by the effect that cold temperature has on the car's consumption. It is definitiely thirstier ands less sprightly when the temperature gets below around -5C.

We had a period recently when the temperature got up to 10C. I refilled and the range was up around 1000 km. The temperature is back down again and consumption is much worse again.

The dealer never said why they replaced the unit.
Apart from the poor mpg i was getting it was a bit snatchy changing gears and the tick over was a bit high.
The OBC read out for the MPG was not very constant and was showing the MPG figures to be more like the actual than the average consumption.
Unless they found more things than they are telling me.
The car is a 57 plate and covered 50k miles so am a bit supprised it needed a new ecu to be honest.

Given it was an AUC car wouldn’t of these things be picked up by the million point check that BMW advertise all their used cars go through.

when i worked for BMW park lane, all the used cars would have 25 point check as they called it in them days, the cars could have loads wrong with it and unless there where lights on was told not to change any think on the car, they would put the cars in to show room wait for them to be sold then sell a warranty to the customer and if there was any problems with the car then claim under the warranty

OK, just did a run of motorway and town driving (roughly 70/30 split)

436 miles

74.71 Lires = 16.43 Gallons

436/16.43 = 26.53 MPG

Not that good really...............
