Rear suspension

Post by Silverfox58 » Mon Apr 02, 2018 5:21 pm

Hi all
What to the dump yesterday with a load of wood in the car , loaded car but when I started the car the air suspension failure message came on , when to the dump and got rid of the wood , started  car and no warnings,  and hasn't came on again,
Now my question is do I have a rear suspension problem or was there to much weight in the car ???
The drives ok with no problems it's not down on one side , as it's done 125k could the bags be soft and need changing.
Your thoughts please

when you started the car at home and the warning was on did you switch off and start again like you did at the dump.

I would put that down to a glitch, a one off, especially if you had left the key in the ignition while loading .

This is not unusual for My X5, I get this error if I have a tonnage of power hungry stuff running on start-up.
Also, you may get this if you wizz the keys straight to the starter without letting the machine do its electrical waffle & checks for 3 seconds before engaging the starter.

Additionally, if the battery is getting weak or a poor connection, the power/voltage drop can also cause a myriad of warnings too, which may / may not clear them selves by magic...

Don't assume anything - there's every chance it's the compressor instead. Check the fuses for it in the fuse panel in the back right compartment - there are 2 for it IIRC.

Ok the pump  works , i added a live feed to it and it works great , no fuses blown,
It's sitting up fine, its just when I have a load on or one/two people in the back.

Hi
I had the same 2 month ago. I did some research on a new pump. There is a site. Bagpipingandys repair kit. £25. He machines and sells the compressor ring complete with fitting instructions and parts.
The bloke is extremely helpful. Wonderful bloke.
He advised resetting the system error or the compressor would not run. I reset, and the compressor ran. I put the parts in my bottom drawer. Always handy.
If your fault has cleared the compressor will run.
I disconnected the pneumatics and let the suspension down a bit and the system started the compressor when I put the ignition up. I should add I also put my finger over the plastic pipe and the pressure was very strong.
You may well find the compressor runs shorting it out. However will the system start the compressor.

Have you checked the leveling modules at the rear, unplug and spray with contact cleaner, plus wd40 the joints on the module arms, a little grease in the ball joints. Just cheap suggestions before spending big.
