Suspension air pump constantly live- is this correct?

Post by hennabm » Mon May 07, 2018 8:45 pm

Hi all

I have noticed that the air pump for my suspension is wired live all the time. As the pump has been relocated to the OSR of the boot to accommodate the LPG tank I'm wondering if the rewire has been done incorrectly and left the pump live all the time?
You can see it on he right of the photo covered in insulation.

This would certainly account for th battery depleting quickly if this is incorrect. If so to stop this happening what fuse is it for the pump so I can pull it when leaving the car for a while.

If is not unusual for a constant live on cars to specific components, there will probably be a trigger wire also, that is from the canbus system to tell it when to run the compressor.
By all Means disconnect  the 30 amp fuse to see if it stops your parasitic draw, that's the only way of narrowing down the problem.

Hi Horizon

Thanks for the reply. Where will I find out what fuse does what?
There is the fuse panel in the OSR cover plus the one under the bonnet.

Many thanks

Hi Hennabm.
I had to do some work on my suspension and pump. I made a comment on a thread out here. To answer your question, the pump will stop and start with the key out of the ignition.
I reset my pump with my Foxwell scanner and keys out. It started immediately.  There is a small reservoir to stop the pump cycling on / off.
I invested in a multimeter with DC tongues that clamp over the battery lead. This is an excellent way to identify if you have a current drain greater than standard.
It will save you a lot of time. Allso it is very easy to use.
A lot of meters now automatically self range.

Fuse 57 is listed in the front.  There should be a (white) card under the fuses pushed back into place with all the fuse numbers and what each covers.
