Picked the car up post LPG conversion. Car is fitted with the latest Prins conversion. Absolutely chuffed to bits. Switches automatically to LPG and back to petrol when LPG runs out.
Cannot discern if running on lpg or petrol. First thing I did was fill it up. Its a 91 litre tank but for some reason it takes 81 litres. Went to an ASDA petrol station and it was 52.7p / litre. Filled the tank and will log the mileage.
Is an X5 Diesel really cheaper to run? Over a  continous100 mile journey woud a hybrid compete?
It is not often I have filled a fuel tank and had change for an ice cream.

Your 91 ltr tank will never take 91 ltrs can't remember the percentage but you have to allow for expansion of the gas. You'll get a couple of extra ltrs in on a really cold day. I've just done Dorset to Cumbria 3 times and never put a drop of petrol in. If going on a journey get the LPG app on your phone and it plots the stations country/europe wide. Enjoy, your pockets should feel a little heavier now.

Just bought a 4.2 supercharged range rover with lpg. I put £40 of petrol in it to get me 50miles home and some but it ran on lpg on the way back so the petrol gauge didnt move.
I have no idea how to go about filling it up with lpg when the time comes tho..

The 4.4 ran on LPG a friend I shoot with suggested our own "Top Gear Challenge" three of us took part, a brand new Disco diesel a 3.6 TDV8 Range Rover and my 4.4 X5. We met at Bucks Barn Filling station on the A24 and topped up they with Diseasel me with LPG and petrol, we then headed north for Redmire in Yorkshire for some shooting the route was A24, M23, M25, M11, A14, A1/A1M about 300 miles. The challenge to see who had to fill up first, first to go was the TDV8 on the way home next the Disco I chickened out at Pease Pottage and put in enough to get back to Bucks Barn. We drove at proper Motorway speeds and it included some light off road stuff in all the 4.4 covered just short of 600 miles on LPG/Petrol combined whether it was cheaper than running a diesel I haven't a clue but it went further and was a hoot hooning around in a V8 at £40 a fill up.
Moog try looking behind the Bumper cover for the tow bar or beside the petrol cap under its flap (that's where mine was)

The autogasman said it had 81usable litres. I will certainly put the LPG app on the phone.  Not only heavier on the pockets but better for the enviroment too I believe.  What range can I expect  from a full tank. 300 to 400 miles?
Hi themoog, good luck with finding the lpg filling point. That topic of buying an lpg car and not knowing anything about it sounds exactly like me.

I love the fact that my V8 4.6is X5 is pretty economical to run with the LPG system. I usually get between 250-300miles to a tank which sounds to be the same size as yours to be honest. I probably use around £10 worth of petrol with that mileage too as it uses it for starting each morning.

Greydog that is such a good story. Went out on a test and ended up enjoying the day out. That is what life is about, just going for it and mixing in spontaneous good things. Your right I will just enjoy it and shut up on the clinical stuff.

No- I know where the filler is its just ive never used an lpg vehicle before or even seen an lpg pump at a station..
There is a small round indicator on the dash which has a single led at the top and a row of leds at the bottom. Sort of like a smiley face. When the engine is started the single led is red which I assume is lpg off as after the engine gets a bit warmer it turns green. The row underneath are constantly flashing green but I don't know what that means. Yet.

I have a 4.4 with LPG. It uses petrol when it first fired up and takes a few minutes to get warm enough to let LPG kick in, usually only need £10 petrol every 6 months or so lol

A ball ache when you need to change battery, tooke me ages to get the tank to lean out enough to take out the battery.

I had lpg fitted to my 2002 4.4 since purchased in 2006, well pleased, have a 95 litre Stako tank fitted, tank will only fill to 90% of nominal capacity as it is compressing the liquid gas on fill.
Did you know that in theory you can double the engine oil changes as you are burning a gas , not petrol vapour, in the engine.?
I used to run a fleet of Transits which were supplied by Ford dealer already converted to lpg and this was one of the advantages pointed out by Ford Mo Co.
The oil drains out a lovely golden colour, not the black colour as with petrol.
I know this is a hobby horse of mine, but it really does make sense to do the conversion.
There are lpg listed garages if you do a search on Google, just print off.
