AutoSeal

Post by henrym3 » Fri Aug 31, 2018 6:39 pm

Anyone got experience/used the stuff. As I have no spare wheel and recently got a puncture I have become paranoid, had I been away from home I would have struggled to get going within a reasonable time.

I have used Puncturesafe which is a water based rubber compound that the put into a tyre permanently.  It forms a skin inside that stays liquid until you get a puncture and then an amount fills the hole and sets, the rest remains liquid for any future ‘event’.  It can cure holes up to 1/4” with no problem.

Being water based it doesn’t upset tyre repairers either.  It doesn’t affect wheel balance either.

Not cheap as you need getting on for ~1 litre per corner on the 20” tyres.

It saved my life as a motorcyclist (prevented rear wheel punctures more than once) and is used by Police forces and caravaneers (amongst others).

You just get the weight off the tyre, remove the valve, fill with the correct number of units (from their chart), reinsert the valve, reinflate the tyre, repeat for all wheels and go for a ten minute drive to ensure an even coating inside the tyres.  That’s it.

It probably can’t be used with vehicles with Radio TPMS but it may be OK as I don’t know how waterproof the sensors are.  You could always ask Puncturesafe though.  :)

I got a plugging kit off ebay for £15, fast permanent fix....

I push my X5 hard, & done plug fixes on several of the last tyres set & no issues even after 10k after the fix.

Put the stuff in, for whatever reason it gives one a feeling of confidence.
