NAV keeps rebooting. why?!

Post by lordviper » Sun Mar 13, 2011 11:38 am

hi guys,
recently for no apparent reason my mkIV nav unit continually reboots whilst driving. its kinda intermittent.
it makes using it near impossible.
the music however is not affected.

does anyone know of a possible fix for this problem?

thanks in advance.

Music has a complete different connection, so I am not surprised it is fine.

Have you tried resetting the entire car system by disconnecting the negative pole of the battery for 15 minutes?

Secondly, can you confirm that the disk in the MKIV unit is an OEM Navigation disk, and not an (illegal) copy?

i thought it was my nav disc at first so bought a copy off ebay, but same problem, if not worse!
are nav discs known to cause this kind of issue?

have also tried disconnecting battery for 15 mins, no joy.

thanks for the reply!

For the OEM disc, it's possible you may have a laser problem in the DVD drive. Could be dirty or out of alignment. And to answer your question it is a known failure. You can repair it yourself if you have the tools and time.
