OMFG!!!!!!!! Driving me insane
BMW X5 e53 2006 3.0d 159k
RIGHT!
The car on acceleration and only when hot the X5 has a judder/misfire can’t quite put my finger on it! It’s not violent it doesn’t feel like it the whole car you can feel it in your feet (if that makes sense)
no warning light no codes no noises at all!!
once it gets over it’s 3 judders / always just 3 little boom boom boom drives perfectly.
Only does it in low gears and low speeds after it gets over it it runs smooth and perfectly!!!!! And seems to change gears silently and you can’t feel it change gear.
Had new
thermostat
New tyres
Balanced and alignment
Water pump
MAF
IAT
Injector (and recoded)
Boost sensor
Power steering pump
Oil change in transfer box
It’s my little pet project this car bought it cheap and want to keep her out the scrap yard.
the car has absolutely no leaks anywhere oh also checked callipers and brakes!!!!
Has anyone got a clue ?????? It drives fine but just driving me insane not knowing or being able to fix!

Probably worth getting an error code check done for the gearbox too. Errors in there rarely trigger warning lights until too late and not all code readers are able to readout the transmission fault codes.

It might not be, could be something to do with the changeover from cold to warm engine program. Without a proper code read we’ll all be clutching at straws to some extent, but there’s not much else you haven’t looked at already.
It’s because it only does it in certain gears and only when warm. A fluid change may sort it - not cheap as the Lifeguard 6 fluid isn’t cheap - but it’s easy to do if you can get underneath. My 8 speed X6 was beginning to show signs of trouble but a full driveline service (diffs, tfr box, gearbox) made it like new again. All age related. BMW tell you it’s ‘lifetime’ oil but their ‘life’ is three years. ZF say change the fluids every 8 years of 50,000 miles - whichever comes first.

Well I replaced all the other parts might as well service the gearbox too
I’m going to ring the main dealer tomorrow as the service book has the last 4 years of them looking after it see what’s been done previously… worth an ask
the car came with a FULL service history at bmw main dealers which is strange for the age I thought but might be a good thing if I can get history on it

Bad injector, can you do a smooth running check on a diesel??
X5 driving me insane!
Nope but I know a man who can! I had a bad injector in cylinder 1 which I replaced. But that judder came at speed not in low gear. Knowing my luck the other 5 are on there way out lol
