UK Continuous Insurance Regulations now in force

Post by X5Sport » Mon May 23, 2011 3:45 pm

For those of us with cars that we don't use all year around, you need to be aware of the requirements in the article below.

Regulations are in force from today and will be enforced from 20th June 2011. If you don't have it insured, then it must be SORN'd.

I appreciate the thought behind it, but those from certain communities that drive without tax abd insurance will still not be caught by this simply by the fact that the cars are not registred to them.

To really make this work, shouldn't it be a case like it is abroad, that you are responsible for the car until you have a piece of paper in your hand to prove you have signed it over to the new owner with all verified details etc. I made very sure I did that when I sold my Dutch car as tax is also per day and traffic fines are your responsibility until you have that stamp from the post office which is timed.

I did wonder myself when I saw this about just what difference this is really going to make. One cocern I have regards the accuracy of the DVLA database and records. There have been numerous incidents over the years of te data being wrong as well as drivers losing their licenced group entitlements at renewal.

I wish I knew what the real and near 100% best answer is. Annual number plates with MOT, Insurance and tax tags on them? It would mean locking everyone into a single date in the month basis, e.g. 1st of each, last of each, you get te idea. Trouble is no one wants to pay for it and it limits where you get your plates from. And you still need someone to actually enforce the regs.

I am a prime example of DVLA at its best - when changing my NL license for the UK one, they gave me every single category :D

Nothing wrong with Tractors.......I used to drive a big red one with Massey-Ferguson on the side. There's a certain malicious pleasure driving at 25km down a dual-carriageway. But it was alright coz I had a yellow flashing beacon on tbe roof. Air con cab, stereo, air-sprung cumfy seat with arms, 24 speed gearbox. Not many Senior Managers in the Civil Service can say they bought (£36k with discount) and drove a tractor.... :D :D :driving:

I found it very therapeutic........
