Final Stage Resistor Replacement

Post by kstandsteve » Tue Jul 05, 2011 6:55 pm

My blower on my air con has become intermittent and most of the time just wont work.

Fuses are fine so I am replacing the FSR.

I have this link via the search;-

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/mis ... ement.html

However the photos refer to a left hand drive car. It says the FSR is located in the same place but on a RHD car down near the pedals.
I have removed the gearbox tunnel side trim and the lower 2 parts of the shrouds below the steering wheel.

The trouble I have now is I cant find the FSR. It doesnt look very much like the pics in the link and dont want to start pulling at bits.

Does anyone have a RHD photo or another link showing where this thing is.

The car is a 2001 3.0 Sport E53

Cheers

Steve

Cheers Sanj,

Have put the trims back on for tonight - going to have another go tomorrow.

So with the trims removed do I need to remove anything else? Or should it be visable once following the FSR wiring loom? One link suggests removing all the sat nav headunit etc but the others dont so I guess the FSR is somewhere in behind those bits.

Like I say will go back out again tomorrow armed with your links.

Cheers

It's behind the aircon switches - the screen is easy to get out (quick search) and then the aircon switches just push out. Makes life sooo easy then.

Remove that carpet side panel on the centre console (by your knee) too - it's in 2 halves and you want the one closest to the front of the car. One screw in the footwell to remove. Then poppers to get it out.

I am a fat fingered :censored: and I managed to do this without removing a/c buttons or nav.

If you remove side trim & upper trim you can get to this. Sure I had to lay on floor at an uncomfortable angle but it was achievable. From recall its tucked behind the fan heater output.......it's all about working the hands and a sense of feel.......No smutty jokes please ;

If you really struggle then maybe call on assistance of a willing young family member (after encouraging them to listen to your specific guidance). 50p and a pat on the head should do it :D
