I see on BMW Scanner 1.4.0 there is an option to enable servotronic steering, is it possible this is just a software enabled feature that the dealer charge to enable from new and the hardware is already present or does this need extra hardware?
If so how do you tell if the hardware is present in your model of X5?
Mine doesnt have servotronic enabled but does have a fuse fitted and terminals coming off the back of the fuse for servortronic
Many thanks

Re: Servotronic steering
The 'Servotronic' system on my X6 has an additional electric motor attached to the steering column which provides additional assist power at low speeds such as when parking. I've never come across it on the E53 version (6-cyl version exist) of the X5 though. I know it used to surprise me how heavy the X5 steering seemed after driving the X5.
Was it ever fitted to the V8 models or as a special option only? There was a retrofit kit, but that went out of production a few years back. I've looked back at my 2005 options list for my X5 3.0D and it wasn't listed as being available then.

Re: Servotronic steering
I had servotronic steering on a 99my E39. I believed it was standard on V8 Sport X5's?
