Help needed again, windscreen wipers has developed a gremlin

Post by gareth82 » Tue Oct 11, 2011 8:25 am

Hi my latest problem (to add with the existing rear suspension problem, where the car sinks if left overnight), my wipers have stopped working on two different occassions. I was driving in heavy rain last night and the front wipers where working fine then all off a sudden they stopped working no matter what speed they where set at (washers and rear wiper still worked). They started working about 15mins later. It was extremely dangerous getting the car pulled into the layby as I couldnt see a thing and would be reluctant to drive the car again in the rain incase this happens for a third time.

Any ideas, all help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi mate

It is probably the wiper motor itself , did the wipers fail in the park position or halfway up the screen?

To be 100% sure where the fault lies you really need it in it's failed state to check the feeds and earth at the block connector onto the wiper motor but be cearfull of the linkage possibly springing into life with your hands in that area!
It does sound like a motor fault though. On the plus side it's a very easy job to change , just remove the wiper arms and the black plastic bulkhead panel and the linkage is right in front of you.

Good luck

I had the same problem with a 7 series with rain sensor wipers .
driving on intermittent mode in light rain which gradually became heavier causing wipers to automatically wipe continuous .
the rain became torrential causing the wipers to stop no matter which mode I selected .
I stopped the car safely , switched ignition off for a few minutes , restarted and the wipers worked fine .
just my two pence .
