IOS5 - what do you think?

Post by X5Sport » Thu Oct 13, 2011 8:26 pm

Have only had it a few hours (like most folks) and I have to say that so far I'm quite impressed. A lot if changed things and so it will take some getting used to but at first bash it aint bad. Using it on Iphone4 and iPad Mk1. Have yet to try all the new wireless functions out.

If you have it, what do you think so far?

If you haven't got it, you might want to wait for the US to go back to sleep as the servers really slooooooooowwwwww down when they're awake. Or of course you can wait a couple of weeks and laught at those of us who waited about 18 hours and then went and got it and now regret it

Sorry, gotta say, rubbish.

Had it from last night and there isn't much to it. Remember they're playing catch-up with the Android version and they won't admit it but the JailBreak versions too!

So many features still not available, but it may be a user issue!

For example can you get that drop-down screen to show email? I only get SMS and IM???? Oh and weather/stocks...

What shall I do with Reminders??? No badge to show outstanding lists (again could be me at fault here)?? My Errands and Shopping List do so much better.

Slight changes to the settings buttons is no biggie for me.

Only thing I like is the immediate display of SMS/IM without screen unlock (but again catch-up on the JB/Android versions).

Hope I find more features but 200! No way! :?

I connected my iPhone to my system at 7 this morning, all downloaded and installed at 7:30 :)

Too busy to have had a play though, so far found the iMessage feature to send free messages to other iPhone users instead of sms. Saves using Viper I suppose.

The pull down screen at the front seemed ok.

I installed it on my iPad 2 this morning but been too busy to really play with it. Haven't bothered to do my 3GS as I'm going to try and pick up a 4S tomorrow from O2.

I wonder if now that Steve Jobs has gone to the fruit orchard in the sky, whether or not we will finally see a 'Flash' player included any time soon? Probably not. I'm awaiting a proper Android version to be adapted to the HP Touchpad too. IOS may have its foibles, but WebOS is just childlike in its abilities. Some of the coding errors and basic mistakes are astonishing. I'm not surprised HP dropped it!! The hardware is OK though, which is the tragedy.

Picked up a 4s on way into work (okay made me an hour late). Certainly a lot punchier than my 3G, and with 64g I'll be able to load up my entire iTunes collection for use in the X5. Also looking forward to the hi def camera for those times out with the kids when you need one (not up to your photographic standards I'm sure X5Sport, but not bad for a pocket camera!). I tried Siri on the shop demo version and it didn't get my (very neutral Southern) accent at all. Maybe I need to learn American? Can't comment on the os as haven't had time to use it much yet! Covent Garden apple store I walked past this am was mayhem ...

Hey I can do cheap, cheerful, quick and dirty too. I'd break my neck carrying the EOS about all the time. Have used the iPhone4 camera more than a few times, albeit not for video though. It's adequate if you're not looking to zoom up and print larger than say 7in x 5in.

What's the new one got? Let's hope the optics match the sensor update.

An app already exists, called Skyfire IIRC. I think it's basically a browser which runs a VM remotely to convert flash to HTML.

Anyway, a few weeks Adobe held a press conference, which much of the media seemed to miss. They announced that they were going to fully embrace HTML 5 in future, which should be a fairly large (and long overdue) nail in the Flash coffin. It was only ever supposed to be a sticking plaster in the first place.

From download to installation was less than an hour for me.

That included upgrading iTunes to 10.5.

I did mine at 7 in the morning though in the office, whilst you slackers obviously were all stil asleep :)

You will lose all your calendar items on the iPhone for some reason I found.
