just thought since I was on this thread I'd add a few pics of my progress bringing my poorly X5 back to its former glory:

Got me a set of the upgraded Angel Eyes, since one of mine was totally dead and the other wasn't quite bright enough:

Before:

After:

My Drivers Window Regulator was also toast, so replaced that. Now I can go to the Drive Through :):

The Front Pads were worn down to 1mm....So fitted some new Mintex pads and Sensor:

And gave it a wash for good measure :)

I was also pleased to whip off one of the wheels and find that they are in fact genuine BMW rims :D

I saw a few cars on eBay with the same style wheels (mainly in 22" flavour though) but replicas and was really hoping mine were genuine.

Thanks kkodal78

Update:

The main damage on my car is on the Rear Passenger Side door. It is dented, scraped and bent and looks like it took the force of most of the impact when the car was originally damaged. I had a quote to 'repair' this door:

(in the flesh it looks worse than the pic below, it has numerous dents and deep scratches and is generally Fubar'd)

Image

But I kept an eye out on eBay and after making a 'best offer' I was pleased to pick up a Silver 2006 SE Door complete with glass for just £50! (the blue is the reflection from the TV, it's not 2 tone  )

Image
Image

It's in great condition and so far I've stripped off the SE Door handle and Black Window Trim Parts, and hopefully this weekend I will fit it to my X and swap over the Sport Door Handle and Sport Black Trims to it. The car will look 100 times better instantly and even if they end up spraying the door again when I take the car in for the real body repair, at least I know its been done right as opposed to them using a load of filler on my old door :)

And another random pic for good measure :D :

Nice one! - more pics of the door swap though. Don't think anyone's had to do one...?

Is the colour match good?

You'll need to get some more cash in the kitty by selling me your intravee lol

Haha,

I just made an eBay offer on a Hualingain headunit (since I knackered my MID stereo trying to do a DIY pixel repair...), so if I win it, I will need to to sell the Intravee ASAP to pay for it.

The only thing is, I sold my last Intravee/KCA unit for over £250 (1.5 years ago) and on eBay recently they have been going for even more than that!

I would definitely sell you my Intravee mate, but (as much as I'd like to) I can't afford to 'do you a deal' on it and I really need as much as I can get for it, and I imagine I will get a much higher price selling to 'Joe Bloggs' on eBay than you would be willing to pay.

Feel free to PM me an offer, but now I have knackered my stereo I really need as much as I can possibly get. I can't really afford to be buying a new headunit right now, but I have no choice. I'm hoping to sell as much stuff as I can to pay for it.

Sanj - next to the car it looks like a perfect match, but I won't really know until it's fitted. (hopefully tomorrow now)

It can't look any worse than the damaged door does already, but quite a few times in the past I have bought used body panels and fitted onto my car and the colour match has been spot on, no need for paint.

Fingers crossed! :)

x555 - Thanks mate :)

Ive seen them go for £180 tops which I can't justify as the intravee brand new is only £150 brand new. I'd rather get that new and risk £30 on a second hand KCA-420i. Post a link up when you stick it on eBay and I'll deffo bid.

Nice deal on door at £50 and the same colour as well

Well today me and my brother went ahead and fitted the new door, the whole process actually went very smooth, but did take quite some time.

The process would have been much much quicker and easier if the replacement door was from a Sport model. Since it was from an SE it needed the handle and all the black trims (that come matt Black on the SE) swapped over with the shiny black ones from my old Sport door.

Here are the before pics:
Image

Once the old door was off the car, you could really see how bad the damage was, it was not only dented, but buckled out of shape:
Image

I really hoped it didn't rain...:
Image

These are all the SE bits that needed to be removed from the new door. The new door came complete with glass, but needed the motor/regulator swapping over from my old door:
Image

And the completed door ready to be refitted:
Image

Unfortunately by the time we had fitted the new door, wiring, doorcard etc it was starting to get dark so the 'after' pic isn't great, but the colour match is really good and the car instantly looks loads better!:
Image

The only remaining repair to do is the rear quarter dent you can see on the pic above, and a few small marks on the front wing. Hopefully I have knocked a few hundred quid off the repair job though, as they quoted me 4 hours labour just to repair the old door. The new one is as straight as an arrow. I might still get it painted again since they are already doing the front wing and rear quarter, but all in all i'm very happy with today's repair job!
