boot shelf as in the pull out piece of fabric cover which is at the level of the top of the rear seats?

or the optional metal tray that can be pulled out once the bottom part of the boot is opened?

I've never seen one except on the parts web

Is it the normal base that covers the spare with an extra duplicate piece on top that pulls out on tracks?
Can it not be wholly removed and be replaced with the normal cover?
Are you after getting rid if this in an option...possibly straight swap?

Had one of these on my last x and though it had it's uses i rarely used it and wouldn't have it again.
Without it you would just have a normal floor cover that sits above the spare wheel etc.
It can be unbolted and taken out easily enough and you would save some space but not a great deal more.

Is there a lip at the rear so that if you pull it out (as its intended to) you dont shove stuff off the back...and therefore can't shove it back in?

Sounds cool for shopping or better stil if yoy put a tolbox or drill etc in

No this was one of the annoying things about it, also when it was pulled out you had to be carefull not to fully load it to the rear of the shelf or when you pushed it back in against the sloping back rear seats the shopping would get crushed :headbang:
It was great for unloading when pulled out (easier on the back as opposed to leaning over the tailgate into the rear of the boot) but overall not worth having as an extra imo.

rEplacing this with a std cover will give u about an extra inch of height, doubt if that's worth the effort, if ur issue is fam gettin bigger and needin more space in there.

I'd say ur better off upgrading to an E70:)

hi sorry for delay i am refering to the pull out base
It does seem like there would be more space i would of hoped for more than an inch in height

I wouldnt tick to options list if i was lucky enough to buy a new car with this option put it that way

I breifly had a range rover before the x and the boot was very large and was spoilt really, the x doesnt seem much different to the 33o touring i had before the range
not a major problem i suppose will have to live with it i suppose

cheers for all your coments

I know what u mean - I had a land cruiser before the X. Spoilt for space indeed! 3 children could sit in the 3rd row of seats, plus more space for 5 cabin sized bags!! But then that was a massive beast slow and sluggish!

BMW has managed to get a 4x4 to handle like a car, compromise is space I guess. That rear tray makes it worse I guess.

Can't have everything. Havings said that the E70 is bigger, for a lot more money!
