Might be part of the bluetooth module. ULF or something like that. I enabled voice recognition in mine with navcoder but it's rubbish. Also the BMW module doesn't recognise voice tags you may have on your phone and you will have to set up tags on the BMW module it's self. Doesn't work very well, it's easier to scroll through the phone book with the steering controls

There may be simpler ways to check but i do know if the Bluetooth module is endorsed with a label Mit SES it is voice enabled. My retrofit BT system is fully functional in this respect 8-)

Press and hold the speaking man button on the steering wheel, if you get a beep after 5 seconds or so it's enabled, you'll just need the voice commands. If it doesn't beep it will need to be enabled with navcoder. I would have thought your car with have a compatible ULF module, mine did and is a 54 plate facelift (built jan 05). Since I enabled it I haven't used it, it will frustrate the s**t out of you repeating yourself while it constantly gets the command wrong.

Where you at? I built myself a splitter cable that I plug into the back of the sat nav drive in the boot and have the spare hidden away so I don't have to unbolt the nav drive every time I want to use navcoder

Yeah easy enough. I got usb type reisler from eBay then got male and female connectors from the stealers to make up a splitter cable rather than cut everything. You'll need to pay for navcoder to be able to do anything with it too... Around £20 I think it was

I enabled the voice control using resler too and, just as another opinion, it's the feature of my car I'd least like to lose if buying again. I do tend to phone the same 20 or so numbers regularly so once voice tags assigned it has worked flawlessly.

No imbecile computer attempting to decipher what you've really said, just pattern matches your saved voice tags. A bit limited, but more reliable.
