It seems i was excited when i picked up my x5 and seem to have misplaced my locking wheel nut key!!
Not too worried as i have a place that can get them off (non oem so BMW couldnt supply a new key) but im not sure what to put on it their place..
OEM, McGuard or soe other brand??
prob should add im swapping the wheels this weekend so they need to fit these too!

I assume the new rimmage will still use OE spec bolts? If so then just get a set of OE ones.
But if you don't want OE then look to McGuard or the like.
Tbh if someone wants your rims then it honestly makes no difference as they will get them off no matter what locking bolts you have on.

Whatever is cheapest, as you say you know a place that can remove them. They usually have a special socket that they hammer on which bites into the nut when being undone. Anyone wanting to take your wheels will do it the same way. I would say get one lock nut taken off the get 1 replacement and the relavent lock key. The lock key number will be stamped on the end of the stud.

ok, so there seems to be two diff parts that both list as fitting the x5?

Just have one locking bolt removed, take it to the parts department at BMW dealership and order a replacement bolt and locking nut.

they are non oem so bmw dont have the key..

Ahhh, anything will do then, some come with a guarantee that if your wheels are nicked they will replace them

The other tip I was given was to fit 2 different makes /types of locking wheel nuts to each wheel, which is what I have done on my other cars. Yes more cost another 50 quid, but how much are you wheels and tyres worth 2k, the idea is it slows them down thus more of a risk or may deter them from going for your car and they may then go on to another car instead,
Secondly if they get disturbed nicking your wheels and you go to drive off not noticing normal bolts have been removed at least with 2 locking bolts still in place on the wheels you can get home slowly as the wheel is a bit more secure and doesn't wobble.
Ultimately you can only do so much and as raj said if they want your wheels that bad they would probably take the car which is not good.

Spoke to BMW who advised against the earlier 'spindle' tyoes and ssaid to get the newer models at £58. told me they were manufactured by McGuard sowent off and bought those for £28.
