Lower tailgate (not the upper glass bit) problem

It seems that the upper half has its fair share of issues with bump stops, innoperative latch buttons and missing rubbers.....but had anyone ever had an issue with the lower section

Symptoms....lift tail up and there are latches either side at the wings. Both latches work....but if I push to lock with dead center pressure then only 1 side get the double (or is it single) lock. If I push the tailgate shut say midway between number plate and the end on the troublesome side it catches (as does the other side). It's as if there's a very minor twist or adjustment required to ven up the locking

any ideas?
