Bad weekend

Post by Ubatoid » Sun Feb 12, 2012 5:16 pm

I did have great plans for this weekend. Fit SMG steering wheel, fit FSR to cure drain and fit Hualigan if it arrives. Well the Huli didn't arrive, my flaps refuse to work on the new steering wheel and the battery went flat. However the fsr went quite smoothly, only took half an hour. If I'd have wanted this kind of trouble I would have kept the Range Rover.

They don't work ! All my wiring seems good, they just don't change gear.

Oh and on the website I'm building, I can't get a very simple server side include to work either. The most basic of html coding. Poo weekend all round.

Hi Mate

I have carried out this mod on my X5 some time ago and it works ok.The switch inputs are just a switched earth sorry to sound stupid but are you selecting the gear lever across into sport before attempting switching gear with the paddles? If so check the both wire inputs from the swithches on the wheel via the slip ring are giving an earth signal when switched .

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes indeed I am putting it in manual. I'm sure it's something simple, I just need to get out there with the meter and go through it methodically.

No sir. It would seem I ordered it a couple of days before Hualingan went on their 2 week shutdown for Chinese new year :headbang:

I have found that the hole left by the OEM nav unit makes an excellent storage compartment for fish and chips though  and what with fitting the SMG wheel and FSR, Ive had plenty of time playing in the old girl. Still got plenty to do aswell - tune up the LPG system, investigate headlight leveling fault, find out what is behind the stuck on mirror glass on the passenger side......... Oh and save up for some new headlights.
Happy days.

Ahh gutted for you mate!

At least you have plenty to keep you busy! Just make sure your fish doesn't slide out and drop into the dash...or you will never get it out! haha!

When I was driving the X without a stereo I found that my iPhone resting in the speedo worked pretty well as a substitute stereo when it's on loudspeaker! Better than no music at all!
