Loud noise at lower speeds - Help please

Hi my X5 has developed as I would describe a rubbing / squealing noise at low speeds. I have never heard it above 20 MPH. It sounds like its coming from the front drivers wheel. Its not a constant squeal its as if you can hear it at the same point of each revolution of the wheel.

I dont hear it everytime at low speeds but usually after a drive of about 10 mins plus it can be heard.

This evening I parked on a hill, put the X5 into netural and let it free wheel down the hill. With the squeal present, I ever so slightly touched the brakes (not enough to even slow me down slightly) and the noise goes away until I release the brake.

Has anyone any ideas of what it could be or what I could check as I dont want to book it into the mechanic if its an easy fix or something silly.

Could it be as simple as a small stone or object stuck in calliper and scraping disc? Take wheel off and have a good look with a bright torch.

Or even fully worn inboard brake pad, but you should get a dash warning well before that happens.

yes sounds very much like the brake pad worn indicator, this happens when a metal clip eventually touches the disk. i must say its a few decades since i've experienced something like this, its been an in-dash indicator for a long time for worn brake pads.

I believe the front sensor is passenger side, the rear sensor is drivers side
