One I've used is e46fanatics - assuming you're looking that far back, or there's bimmerpost, e90post for the later ones (E90/92), and F10.5post. Lots on Google, but I've seen links back to those in a number of places before now.

I was (still am) a member on e90post. Good crowd - similar feel to xdrivers (or it was a couple of years ago when I was active there)

Re: BMW 3 series forum recommendation
E46 is the 3-series that went out of production in about 2005 (so it's 2 generations back now as the latest one has just been launched) and was replaced by the E90. Not sure if you were looking to buy a new or second hand one.
The E46 was the last of the 'pre-Bangle' styled BMWs which caused so much debate when his 'flame styling' came out. He was BMWs Chief Designer, and has since moved on to run his own Design Studio. Some would say good thing too..
If you look in my gallery you'll see an E46 Convertible with its fabric roof. The next gen on, and all those since, have metal folding roofs.

I used to go on this site when I had my Technoviolet 318t1 Compact Sport
http://www.bmwowner.com/forum/
I think one or two from there (which was originally e36coupe forum I think) are on this site
