I saw an X5 onsale yesterday...but something's a bit hmmm
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 4462325438
It appears to be fully loaded...BT/heated seats/tinted more tha mine all round...but 110,00 miles
Dealer unlocked an left me to crawl over it. Came back when he saw me looking through books. Th SH book wasn't there (he didn't show it) just said it was in the office as they get knicked....fair enough but he didn't hang a round...just walked back off.
The price in the screen was £500 more but said they had dropped the price to the web price
Inspection - Exterior
Fine scratches on the bonnet that might come out...a few stone chips...a dint/crease on the offside rear wheel arch right at bumper join level. You can see it if you zoom in on side pic.(picture 2)...a dark line where the paint at the bodywork fold edge appears broken and a we bit of corrosion getting in (3mm width line granted). It may be possible to push out from inside.
Good (ish) tread depth but some feathering/wear on the outside edge of the driver front. Bridgestones
Silver inserts (grills)
Rear offside pads about 6mm left.
Tailgate lower...a small bit of noticable corrosion just under upper lid where the (nearly meet). Not sure how...maybe scraped off paint?
Interior....lovely apart from a BIG mark in the driver door armrest presumably because it was slammed (repeatedly?) against the seatbelt. Drivers door seal around opening had tears.
BT bits present (antenna/module)in rear along with CD player. Arm rest has old Nokia drop in with sync/ button
Hmmm
Into office and a few more hmmms
This what the description said
EXCELLENT CONDITION THROUGHOUT, FULL SERVICE HISTORY WITH 5 SERVICE STAMPS IN THE BOOKLET
[bJ]UST BEEN SERVICED[/b] When asked about that I asked why wern't the pads changed "dunno but the light isn't on"....hmm...so it has been serviced....."not yet....was done at 80 odd thousand miles"
How many owners "3"
Tax ran out at the end of Jan this years so why MOT-02-2013?

Err.....No. Run away fast. Too expensive, needs a service. 5 stamps sounds about right if the intervals were at 20k intervals, but it hasn't been done since 80k. That doesn't add up either.
pvr sold his with a lot less miles for that money. Needs to come down to nearer £8k in my book. I'd want to see the V5C too - just confirm the owners.

No, sold mine for 10k in showroom condition with no faults and 80k. This seems way to expensive for that condition.

I did have my doubts about this....you seem to be confirming though
Looking for a car for the wife (fair swap
) must be as good (or as bad) as mine
Not Black, facelift diesel, BT almost a must. She seemed overawed by the gubbins on this....the colour was not a clone of mine and said I could have the wheels
Colour choices Grey, maybe silver (but twee if it matches mine), and blue at a pinch. No grandad wood interior, even though the one above did but it was a strange pale wood...which would be ok
Nice as it was it's at the edge of budget and had faults

you will find the right car, my first x5 i had no buying experience and it turned out to be a dog, my second one however my x lass found and said oh what about this and its a noce colour, turned out to be a le mans, but the biggy for me it was 40 miles from home so i went played, pushed and tested it then walked away had a think phoned back the next night agreed a price and then bought the following night, so if their localish you dont feel pressured by the time/distance/money youve lost by walking away to think

Apreciate you have stated you have walked away.
Mine has 110k on clock but drivers door rubbers not perished. Mine has 7 stamps and due an Inspection 2 in coming months making 8 services including oil services. Servicing on mine seems to be every 12.5-15k.
Frequent despriptive discrepancies exist re advertised prior keepers . If 4th keeper on V5/C then the V5/C will show 3 prior keepers albeit 4 in total.
As for the date issue with tax and MOT I wouldnt be concerned. Some overloook MOT expiry by weeks or longer, some have 13 moths MOT if they get year 4 or onward annual MOT's done early, it may have been SORN'd or sat on a forecourt without a tax disc in past.
As for the money............I know of a fairly straight black 3.0d facelift for 8.5k with circa 120k but serviced by IVECO truck dealer who owned it. Needs some paint on front bumper & probaly a couple of nearside panels plus a wheel refurb - havent crawled all over or driven it though. That car was available last week by a trader & on back of a forecourt having been PX'd at an indy who sells mid to high end performance cars on SOR basis for most customers.

maybe I was subconciously looking for a reason (or reinforce) not to like it when the issues I raised the issue with number of owners or MOT. The DAMAGE to the wing however slight, the checking what I was doing without asking there and then was I interested or did I have a part ex and walking off. The cobblers just been serviced issue just made me completly turned off.
If I had negotiated a price and overlooked any issues would still leave me with the potential "warranty issue" should anything have gone wrong. I wasn't feeling any "customer service".....that was the clincher.
We'll keep looking and it's not a must do NOW...more a strong desire and it's for the mrs too.
PX is an issue too as it's the "price to swap" that's the spoiler. Not that we can't afford it just the tactics of negotiation.
Inevitably if one didn't have a PX then you'd go in with a take it or leave it attitude and work on a price. Dealers just jump in and ask PX and act as if their price is a bargain immovable and yours is cr@p. think I know what ours is PX and I can cope with that but I want to make sure it's not bottom book PX versus forecourt price X5

He asked "did it pass your inspection" as I tried all the electrics, crawled under to look at the CVs, arms, back subframe bushes, cubbyhole in boot for BT etc, button for rear tailgate. Perhaps He didn't like me looking too closely even though it may not have had a problem
It's amazing what this site and a year and a half of existing ownership has taught me...and I'm no expert
I don't think he took kindly to me saying the back pads were on their last legs. Who on earth waits for the sensor to burn out!

I don't know your maths but if the intended p/x is in excellent condition wanting little then I would aim sell that seperately. Various ways to achieve this whether seperate/temp borrowed funds, using or buying useable vehicle once existing car sold & before X5 bought.
Hassle yes but IMO the only way to have clear maths on true purchase price on the forthcoming X5.
Some state they do not have p/x when 1st negotiating the final next car sale price. Despite this a poor p/x offer later can make any prior agreed sale price pretty irrelevant.
Oh the joys
