Can anyone tell me if this standard or an upgrade? My '02 X has side/ parking lamps are capless 5w jobs.

I think someone is using a play on words. This is the standard halogen filament bulb which happens to be filled with (amongst others) a halide gas called 'xenon'.
I took two of these out on my '05 and replaced them with LED lights - which are an upgrade - but they only work for cars with angel eyes, so it's a facelift bulb used from 10/2003 onwards. Unfortunately they are not suitable for your '02..
