The wiper control needs to be in the first position and the sensors will then work - be warned, though, they are not the most accurate at sensing rain!!!

If you have not got the owners manual you can download them from here

http://www.bmwsections.com/docs/#bmx

Just click on the x manuals and then the year you want.

Hi,

im new to x5 ownership and this forum.

I bought a 55 plate 3.0d sport with 64,000 miles from bmw dealer this week. i was just wondering if rain sensing wipers are standard fit. I have the auto headlights.

the dealer couldnt demonstrate the wipers worked and said it doesnt have the option. Im very confused.

will post pics when i get delivery :)

thank you so much for the help!

Rain Sensor

Post by dirtymonkey29 » Sun May 13, 2012 9:35 pm

Hi krish... If you look outside where the rear view mirror attaches to the windscreen you'll see a sensor. This is to sense rain. If it looks all bubbled then chances are it wont work. If you have auto lights (turn light dial to the left to position a) then your lights will also turn on when the rain sensor is activated. It you push wiper stalk up once to activate auto wipers then spray the window it should work. Unless you really don't have that option or the sensor is bubbled.

Don't forget to say hi in new members area.

wow fast resp...thanks.

Will check it as advised.

I take it that it is not standard fit on face-lift 3.0d sports?

I would have thought it was standard. If there's any doubt after youve had a look you can always try your local main dealers parts department and ask them what options are fitted.

This thread tells you how to find the full specs for your car. Once logged in as shown you need to choose 'options' from the top menu (on a PC as it doesn't work on a tablet)?

Your auto lights might not come on under all conditions when the wipers are running. Mine only came on at a certain vehicle speed/wiper speed but I had had the sensitivity of the auto light sensor changed. The default setting is 'High' and my HIDs were on and off like a stripper's underwear, so the dealer changed the setting to 'Low' which delayed the on time/light level.

They never did sort out the lights coming on under a clear blue sky though..... :scratchhead:
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
