I know it's a personal thing, but what sort of figure did you pay for it in the first place, just ball park will do.
Yes, I do have mine for sale at the moment, but it's only done 58K miles and I just want some idea of what people are actually paying for them.
PM me if you prefer.

Oh shoot!!  Any warranty cover?  I wonder if the previous owner knew or suspected and dumped it quick.  Really sorry to read this.  It's getting to be a more frequent occurrence reported on here as these cars age.

I'm beginning to think that the Buyers Guide on here should say - get a BMW fault code read done before you ever buy one of these X5s.  It's becoming as necessary as an HPI check!

the problem i had is that when i bought my x5 i wanted to read the fault codes before purchase but knowone in the know wants to let you plug anything in because of all this making keys through the obd11 plug!!! so i bought mine and read the the minute i got back so that i would have a fighting chance of money back if somethings wrong!

I take it you're talking about dealer purchased cars, I know you still have a little comeback buying privately, but surely not for there being fault codes present.

I was yes.  I personally am wary of private purchases having been burned a many years back.  It was probably only a one off, but it did colour my views from then on.

With the cost of spares on these type cars I think the safest bet it a Dealer option, though it may not always be the best option.  And of course there are as we know some shockingly bad dealers out there and some very honest private buyers too - we have a good selection on this very forum of course... :D

Good news, but how did a broken steering pump react in the same way as broken gearbox?

The mrs was driving she phoned me i was working away ,the "car wont drive it's making a loud noise from underneath" was how the call went so i took the safe option of having it taken to the gearbox shop.

Good thing you dealt with it though, can you imagine what a less scrupulous repairer would - or could - have made from that fault description.  You know the type.....sharp intake of breath and a shaking of the head.....and a HUGE bill even though they will probably have done SFA!

Glad it's sorted.  Unusual fault though :(
