Did you eliminate/check the fuses ?

Personally I would not waste money buying the wrong item, (without fold button).

Don't pay too much used they only cost about £120 from main dealer with some discount - try Cotswold BMW and ask for a best price delivered.

As for your Aunts car it's not a case of pulling car to bits it's a 2 min job to remove the unit, simply pry carefully, (trim tool, cycle tyre levers or mask tape covered small flat drivers), not putting all pressure in one area and remove..... then unplug connectors using flat drive for any tabs and your done. Easier than wiring a house plug if you simply follow my instructions, just take a few moments to look at it properly.

You think?  When I was doing my electronic engineering training at Guildford Tech back in 1980 we had a three hour lesson on how to wire up a 13A plug!!  Some of my fellow students still got it wrong even then!  I'd been wiring plugs (correctly I might add) since I was about 14.  That has to have been the most boring training session I ever had......

New unit is easy to replace as long as you know how the plugs work, I replaced mine and someone had broken 2 of the 3 plugs. The unit itself would only be repairable by someone with a good understanding of electronics as it also controls the central locking and interior lights.

Aw8 I agree with u all the way about the process. Iv seems it done on YouTube in a matter of moments, but my aunt cherishes her x5 and she doesn't appreciate how simple of a job it is!

I will look into the fuse situation over the weekend before I commit to anything. Will keep everyone updated.

I'm getting a little bit fed up now with all the things that need doing:

1. Jet screens don't shoot water
2. Drivers side front bulb has gone
3. Brakes squeek when stopping and they vibrate when braking at 50mph
4. Passenger door handle needs entire unit replacing apparently
5. My air con stinks
6. There isn't a number 6 yet... But it's coming soon no doubt!

Still it's very pleasing to stare at and even more pleasing to drive!

Don't get disheartened at that list. They are fairly minor compared to some issues peeps have had.

You can buy something else and still have problems (even with a brand new motor).

1. Can you hear the pump going for the jets? If yes then could be a blocked pipe or the washer bottle. Pump, washer bottle, etc just replace with secondhand units to potentially resolve.

2. More time consuming than cost depending upon which bulb you say has gone but not too taxing.

3. Brakes could be warped discs. Need to replace discs and pads. If you get one of the ECP discount codes then the cost could be reduced considerably. As for the squeal, I've replaced all my discs and pads front/rear and they still squeal...oh well.

4. There's a how to for the handle replacement.

5. Get the air on serviced.

6. Don't worry about what hasn't happened yet...

Cheers Raj,

I know its not bad in comparison, its more irritating than anything.

I can hear the motor going on the screen jets but no fluid front or back. tried sticking a pin down the pipes but still no luck.

brakes annoy me. they were changed before i bought them and they work perfectly fine!

The handle, labour isnt bad, my garage said theyd do it for £50 which is fair enough, just factoring in the cost of the part bumps it up...

whats an ECP discount?

Re 1. Jet screens don't shoot water -  Could be blocked filters in bottle. Disconnect near nozzle outlet if flow steady thenit's the nozzle blocked. Careful use of a safety pin can clear blockages if not then a syringe and siilicon hose with water can be used to flush through any blockage

Re 5. My air con stinks - The a/con cleaner cannisters improve things as does running it on max a while. Bacteria/spores or smoething similar apparently builds up in system. Obviously a full a/c service helps but I would advise to get it done properly & avoid tyre/exshaust outfits. Maybe change cabin filter if no evidence of recently being done

EuroCarParts discount code. There's usually some flying around that can be used online to get a decent discount on parts, etc.
