Get the car lifted and have a look for yourself. Surface corrosion is normal and can be cured with wire wool and a bit of time. You can then either spray them to protect them or cover them in Vaseline / Copper Grease. Get it re-MOT'd either at the same place or go somewhere else.
Most of the lines are hidden under the Plastic Panels underneath the car which keeps most of the salt and water away which means they dont get as badly effected.
For the price he has quoted you could go to the dealers and get new ones fitted and still have some money left over. The standard ones will last you far longer than you are going to keep the car so why get Copper?

Hi gobiman, by South-East tax I meant labour costs etc. are usually higher than in the rest of the country. :blink:
Good point about the salt/grit though. My car was registered (and spent the first half of its life) in Scotland
Denis what was the name of your indy please?

Linden Automotive in Tenterden. He's actually an Aston Martin specialist but is quite happy with high end German marques. 01580 766213.
He replaced all my pipes in the £300 price.

Re: Brake Pipes
Thanks for the replies guys .
Unfortunately the work was in the process of being done so I wasn't able to take it somewhere else. I do trust my indy and he comes highly recommended from other people. Just for a laugh, I phoned my main dealer and (although it was a very rough price without having seen my car) they guestimated £1100 plus parts
)
He did show me the pipes (I was expecting quite thick, almost water pipe thickness pipework but it's tiny!) and it was pretty badly corroded.
It failed on the handbrake too so my price included 2 new handbrake shoes, expanders and springs.
Now I have the invoice, interestingly I can see he charged me £300 (+parts +vat +labour obviously).
It's the first major work I've had done in the 3 years I've had the car, so mustn't grumble...I was just expecting her to sail through the MOT though!
