Re: AMP & Tweeters Arrived

Had a guy round this morning to fit the tweeters as I chickened out of taking off the door cards myself.

All done but no sound from either tweeter  :( The installer muttered something about needing cross overs but I though these were just plu and play. They were plugged into the blue plug that's there for them but nothing.

Any ideas chaps.

I'm off to give the car a run now to beef up the battery which had run almost flat during the couple of hours it took to do the job. Jump started from the Defender  :(

That should work - it is a plug-and-play install. But have the tweeters been fitted with the existing lower level speakers or have you replaced them as well?

Tweeters usually go hand-in-hand with a mids (and they have the inline crossovers to separate the hi-end frequency for the mid range). But you should still get sound.

The almost flat battery may be to blame - once done with the run, leave it to go to sleep and try a few hours later. Check obvious things like the treble is set high enough and you have fade to the front or middle.

I knew you'd be out there somewhere Sanj.

Lower speakers are the original BMW ones and I just joined the blue plugs.

I'll try a bit of fiddling with the treble settings and fade. I've given it a quick run but have a longer trip tomorrow so will get adjusting after that.

if u have any home theatre system u can connect the tweeter to one of the speaker wires and test the tweeter.

make sure u have volume set low just in case..

Tweeters (if connected correctly to the mids) should just work. If the mids themselves are supplying audible sound then either the connection hasn't been made, break in the wires somewhere or the tweeters are caput. Can't think of what else would stop them from supplying sound otherwise.

Exactly my thoughts Raj. The tweeters were brand new from Cotswold so that should rule out then being knackered. The blue plugs are just there and the only one's so difficult to get that wrong.

It doesn't make sense and Sanj's thought that the flat'ish battery could be the cause was blown away after a 120 mile round trip today which has made no difference to the tweeters although the battery is happier.

I'm off on holiday tomorrow so will worry about it when I get back.
