Back a few weeks ago I though I would do the pre-holiday checks before setting off for France.
As I checked the oil level, I noticed a small amount of oil around the dipstick area.
Me being me, I thought I would investigate.
After removing the plastics, I thought I would have a look at the air filter.
What do you think?

As you can see, it looked a little different to the new one (new one is at the top for those who weren't sure)! Changed at the last service 5K ago? I think not!
Oil separator check time. Luckily it was the vortex type and was all nice and clean

OK, so what's next? The pipework looked OK so on to the EGR valve.
When I took it off and gave it a quick blast with carb cleaner it looked like this -

A bit of brushing, scraping and agitating and it looked like this - and yes I did check for actuator operation, good job I did as it was somewhat obstructed with a hard build-up prior to cleaning.

After bolting the EGR back on and wiping round the engine bay and oil filler neck etc I was a little happier with how things looked -

I re-fitted the rest of the covers etc, and checked the fluids. The oil check took about 20 seconds, the rest took about 1.5 hours, oh yes and I had to remove the rear engine undertray as my 8 year old son decided to help and dropped my ratchet extension down the back of the engine - bless.
So all in all, a good job done, but SWMBO was not overly impressed with the time-scales. But what's new?
And over 1500 miles, five up and loaded with luggage averaging 80mph - 34.4 mpg, well happy
