Auto electrician/alternator recondition

All, i believe my alternator has given up the ghost on my X5 (e53/2004) and to replace new its silly money, therefore looking to get it reconditioned. Took to local auto electrician, but they cant fix it, something about a connector. Therefore, can anyone recommend a company that can test and recondition my alternator? Obviously, it may mean shipping as based in Kent. Cheers.
