Sat Nav upgrade

Post by ChrisLux » Thu Oct 25, 2012 12:13 pm

These Sat Nav firmware upgrade discs , what do they actually do ??

Mine is an '05 Facelift , what benefits will I get from buying the 2010 update ??

Is it worth the hassle (and cost) ??

Firmware upgrade - what version are you on? You should have the birdseye feature already I think.

V32 is the latest.

The firmware upgrades are usually bug fixes, but a couple of them have had useful add-ons such as 'Perspective View' around Version 28 I think.  If memory serves correctly V31 or V32 added the dual layer read capability which is required for the DVDs for issue 2010-1 I think.  The database exceeded the 4.7GB limits of single layer DVDs and BMW found a way of enabling dual layer capability.

Other than that they are mainly system patches.

It just adds a different view 'perspective', or birds-eye as you refer to it.

the other cool feature is that it also auto zooms in and out depending on speed.

as you approach a roundabout and slow down for instance it would  zoom in showing all the exits clearly, whereas on a motorway it would be well zoomed out, showing a large area.
