Can I just plug a sub-woofer in or to I need other equipment as well?

Post by sallyjc » Thu Oct 25, 2012 11:39 pm

Hi there

I have seen BMW Sub-woofers for sale on Ebay which I gather live in the boot in the area below all the fuses.

I have checked this area on my X5 and it is empty.

If i bought a sub-woofer does it connect up easily or do I need a new stereo as well?

Thanks!

Sally

Hey Sally,

I maybe wrong but I'm sure someone will correct me but I believe you need the whole DSP system setup as it runs of a separate DSP amp. It would probably work out quite expensive if you was to fit it all. I have it in mine and if I'm honest its the not the best system in the world. One day I will upgrade my factory sub like A few of the guys on here have fitted their own custom subs to the factory area and it makes such a difference.

Thanks
James

I did not have dsp and upgraded to a custom sub and works great. Sub box was made by a member here"X555" and i bought the sub speaker and amp from states to complete the set up. It is housed in where dsp sub would go and not taking any extra space. You can see my my current and future modification thread for some pics and info. It is a great addition to the sound quality

As above. You can't just add the sub if you do not have DSP already. So you have the widescreen headunit with Nav? If so then check to see if you have DSP come up on the screen menu. If you do then check for the wiring plug in the space where the sub goes. If no DSP is listed then you will have to add the amp, etc also to get it to work.
