LED Angel Eyes Flickering

Post by dobbor1 » Thu Nov 08, 2012 11:18 pm

I have a set of Angel Eye markers which flicker for about 10 seconds with the light switch off and the ignition turned on. Anyone know why this is? I have HIDs in the dipped beams and not sure if they have anything to do with it.

Thanks

LED Angel Eyes Flickering

It's just the car checking all the bulbs are there and working , it send a pulse of power to each light if there is no resistance it pops up with an error on the dash

For those who have ever wondered why, it's because the normal lighting check 'pulse' sent to a filament bulb isn't enough to make it visible to the human eye (though a video camera will see it), but an LED needs much less current/voltage to produce light and we see it.

Every filament on you car will be tested by the system, but unless LED you won't normally see it..... :)

It's also why fitting LEDs often needs error cancelling components.

Here endeth the lesson yawn........ :nerd:

On the meet when we had our lights on, only my car had "flickering" lights at the front and only visible through a camera lens.

Mine was the only LCI though.

Mine does this. I thought it was another thing to add to the list of things to do but clearly not. Good news :-)

Its the same for the LED bulbs you may have fitted above the rear number plate - as X5Sport says, they're all checked by the car.

It does depend upon the bulbs though as the first ones I had fitted to rear for number plate didn't flicker as the cancellers were better quality and expensive. I did try some new front AE ones too and these didn't flicker but they weren't as bright as my current ones. I love the flicker.
