What size battery

Post by fatladandy » Thu Nov 29, 2012 9:48 pm

What is the correct size and spec for the battery for a 2002 bmw x5 4.4i. I have had issues with the battery going flat with a brand new battery having been fitted. I bought the battery from Euro Car Parts online and it is a bosch silver S3 017 90Ah 720cca. Having looked online at other battery suppliers everywhere else list the battery as an 019 and mostly 100Ah and 830cca plus. Is my battery too small for the car hence this issues I am having.

Thanks

Andy

Might be worth getting starter motor checked mate. Few people have had problems with them drawing massive ampage when starting, hence battery going flat. I have a 720amp on my 3.0d and its a bit suspect I think so am just about to replace it with a 900cca one

I have done a quick test with a clamp meter tonight and it shows a draw of 160-180 amps on start up, hence next step thinking is the battery too small. I think a trip to the auto electrician is in order

Maybe a good idea mate. These cars seem to suffer with a few current draw problems. Lets hope it's just a case a case of the wrong battery though.

it is looking increasingly likely that i will have to bite the bullet and get it in, give me a set of spanners and i can sort it, but electrics are well over my head.
