Window Jam

Post by Imy » Mon Dec 10, 2012 4:14 pm

Hi,

Ok new one, just looking for opinions...

My drivers window goes down but if opened all the way it gets jammed. now i can close it by sticking a screwdriver in the corner and the window comes up so it looks like its gotten dislodged or something.

do i need a new window regulator? or could it just be the clips?

Thanks in advance

PS iv had more problems in this car which iv had short of 6 months than 2yrs with a V6 alfa!!!

I Had this on the passenger side.
Mine was a broken clip securing the glass to the runner.

Modified mine with a penny washer and a bit of draught excluder!!

Works a treat now and is more supportive than the dodgy plastic bits...

Item 7 on the inset picture of:-

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=51&fg=10

That is the bit that failed for me...
I modified a penny washer to fit between the glass and item 6

This then stopped the glass from popping off the bottom and twisting

Hi Imy,

I had the exact same problem with my front passenger window and it was the plastic window regulator clip that had broken.

Bought one from this ebay seller and it now works perfectly, still going strong 6 months on and only cost £7.50  ;).

Fiddly but easy enough.  ;)

Thinking back I also replaced the two window retaining clips whilst I was in there as these are also know problem items which can cause the window to drop, mine where in bad shape too so glad I did.

Think I bought them directly from BMW for a couple of quid each. Part No: 51338254781

Here is a video on how to fit them which should guide you through fitting both parts.

Here's how to get the door panel off in case you havnt done it before.

was it essential to remove everything within the door? i.e. padding, speakers, airbag etc?

Yes (except the speaker), you cant get the workings of the window otherwise.

It is easier than it looks to take it all off, I have now got it down to about 5 minutes.  :))

Yeah taking it off wont be a problem, iv done it many times myself. Its just i have limited access to the battery as iv got lpg, and im not sure if leaving the battery connected and then disconnecting the airbag etc will trigger any lights on my dash...

No need to disconnect the airbag, just take the fixing bolts out and tie it back out of the way still connected.
