E71 wheels on E53

Post by DougieV8 » Thu Dec 20, 2012 8:08 pm

Hi all, I have searched about but getting conflicting comments!

I currently have 20" 168 style wheels on my E53 X5.

have just bought a set of E71 X6 19" 258 style wheels .

Will the E71 one wheels be a straight fit or not?

This thread indicates that they should fit with spigot rings only needed at the front.  So no they aren't a straight fit.

Cheers Richard - I hsd read elsewhere that spacers requires at rear due to different offset!? But nothing at front!

Your link is convincing though - any advice on spiggot rings e.g. Where to get them and what to pay?

THESE are the ones I bought to fit the X6 style 259's I had previously on my E53.

As the link Richard posted states, the front bore on the X6 is 74.1 but rear is the same as the E53 72.6, so you only need one pair of spigot rings for the front to fit the rims. I may still have a pair, so will check tomorrow if you want and if so, then you can have them as they are redundant to me.

As for spacers, it depends upon offset of the rims as to whether you want to run them with spacers. I'd fit them first and see how they sit to decide if you want to bring them out and by how much.

If Raj can't track his spare spigots down, I have a pair doing nothing.  To confirm, my spigots are designed to reduce a centre bore from 74.1 to 72.6.  I found the best way to use them. Was to place on the hub, not into the wheel before fitting.

Very kind of you both but I ordered before you posted - I know, how impatient! All too easy with click and buy!

Got to get a puncture repair done then can check fit and runnning - i have 315s on the rear that sit wide, the 285s with E71 wheels sitting in 8mm further will surely help my constantly mud sprayed rear bumper!

No worries mate, as long as your sorted that's the main thing.  We could however pool all these extra spigots for anyone else requiring them.

That's cool Dougie.

The E71 wheels/tyres will be sat quite noticeably further in (around 20'ish mm) so will indeed reduce the spray up the side of the bumper.
