12V Socket

Post by dobbor1 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 7:29 am

I was reading somewhere that there should be a 12V socket under the glove box on the side off the footwell as standard. I haven't got one. Anyone else found it?

I don't have one near glovebox but then I have smokers package option ie ashtray and cig lighter which I use as charging point for phone etc.
Maybe if smokers package wad not specced then they put an additional 12v socket near glovebox?

I have the smoking pack so might be why it's not there. Good thinking :))

Thats a fair point but then i thought if you didnt have the smokers package then all that meant was that there is a cover over the socket instead of a lighter plugged in?

I have also heard about the Socket under the glove box but have only ever seen this on US forums so I would assume this is a US spec option only??

Cheers

I have the passenger side electric socket . It's more down in the footwell than under the glovebox .
I had to get down on my hands and knees with my head upside down to find it !!

It's quite well hidden , but once you know where it is , you can feel for it and plug stuff in . It does
have a dust cover over it too .

Mine also has smokers pack , so I have the one in the ashtray and this one too .

In that case I shall hush my mouth  :)
I had a look a few months ago but could never find it and I have the smokers pack I believe as I have the ashtrays and cigarette lighters in the front and rear.

I shall have another deeper look  :)

Cheers

Lie upside down with ur bum in the seat and head in the footwell as if you were looking for a leak or smthg .
Then look along the gearbox tunnel closer to the foot end . You look a right pratt (so my wife told me) but you see it . Oh , a torch maybe handy too if you hvn't got the extra light pack  ;)

Just double-checked, none for me in the front passenger footwell. I have the smoker pack though.

Wasn't one on my old E53 either......only a torch charging point by the glovebox, although I had to ask for the torch!!

If I contort myself as Chris suggests in the E71, it's likely to become an expensive convertible as the fire brigade will need to cut the roof off as they did to that person's car over the weekend. :o

OK , so now having looked at it actually WITH the car , I might've exaggerated a tad !!
However , it is right at the back of the footwell high up , close to where the heater vents
come out from the glovebox area .

Seems strange some have it , other's don't !!
