Tyre debate

Post by bigsanj » Wed Jan 23, 2013 7:23 pm

Hi guys

Got a question for you. Can I fit 2 MO rated tyres on the E53?

I've scoured the net and really haven't come to a conclusion

Thanks

MO - Mercedes Approved right?

Should be fine as long as the size is as per original being replaced.

Go for it, from mem V is 130mph and it goes upwards with W (I think). Should be no issue.

Gotta ask though, how come YOU ask? Does uncleji work for Merc!?!  :)

Ha cheers Sanj. No mercedes employee here!

Just been offered two tyres to replace the out of shape Nankangs I have and just wanted to check.

Seen loads of comments about them being different but I just don't see how.

Check the size is spot on and they should be fine. What brand are they?

The only useful(ish) thing I can find is that both 'MO' and BMW Approved '*' tyres have been ever so slightly tweaked to make the rolling diameters correct for the staggered setup, and possibly a subtle compound variation.

Where it becomes significant is when the car is under warranty and BMW can (and have) refuse to play nicely because of 'non-approved' tyres being fitted.

There was also a comment that suggested that if non-approved tyres were used and there was an accident in which the tyres were deemed to be the major contributory factor then the Driver's insurance might be invalidated......but that was only a 'might'.

Thanks Richard.

Got the same kind of info a minute ago from my local Indy.  He said there won't be a problem at all.

Sanj - They are Bridgestone Turanza's
