Can a 1.4.0 Scanner adjust mileage?

Post by PhilUK » Tue Jan 29, 2013 10:38 am

Hi all,

A delicate subject I know, but I am awaiting the delivery of a scanner to play with the usual options on the X5. I also have an E46 convertible and have swapped the rear lights for OEM LED units. The tail lights were supplied with the LCM from the same car so was obviously already programmed to allow for LED rears which avoided any flickering or dash warnings.  :)

But, I naturally now have the mileage tamper light showing on the dash so my question is can I reprogram the LCM to the correct mileage of my car with the scanner?

On a separate matter, on rare occasions I would also like the option to take our baby in a rear facing car seat in the front of the E46 but would obviously need to disable the passenger airbag, is this something that can be done with the scanner?

Thanks.

1.  Dealer function only.  Needs the 'full suite' to make the changes to any recorded mileage.  Makes sense or everyone would be at it...and not all for the honest reasons like yours... ;)

2.  Pass.  Be interested to know though in case we ever have to do the same.  There's naff all space in the back when the front seats are back (I'm 6'4"), so not even sure there is room for a rear facing seat to be fitted, ISOFIX or otherwise... :noexpression:

perhaps you'd be better using the original lcm and then using the scanner to disable the bulb failure check within it.?

Thanks chaps.

I had considered what you suggested fenj66 but although that would eradicate the dash warning wouldn't I still get the flicker? Or can the LCM just be programmed to allow for LED rears?

And X5Sport, will let you know re the airbag when I have had a play with it.

it is not possible to change mileage with teh scanner or even the more advanced NPA or whatever software..

theory is that mileage is written into an incremental EEPROM register. how it is only 'incremental' i don't know. maybe its hardware controlled or maybe software.

there are ways of doing it though - if you want to find out dwell into the world of bmwcoders, com, plus there was another that i've forgotten about

It can write mileage to all modules apart from IKE (instrument cluster) as its protected.

The tamper dot only applies to VINs being different not mileages. Recode the VIN on the LCM and dot should disappear.
